Origin
The cultivation of pepper began in India and then caught on in south-east Asia, Madagascar and Brazil. Its use dates back to the time of Alexander the Great. Pepper was used as currency at the end of the middle ages.
Description
Pepper is a creeper whose fruit – the seeds – are green and become brown when ripe.
The seeds, which are rich in piperine, are used in phytotherapy.
